This 12-step programme is provided by Rehabilitation of Addicted Prisoners’ Trust (RAPt) and is currently available in nine prisons (seven adult male prisons, one female adult prison and one male young offender. They offer treatment to more than 350 individuals.
It was originally founded on the ‘twelve steps to recovery’ approach and assumes that addiction is a lifetime illness that can be controlled - but never completely cured. However, it does aim for complete abstinence. Each step in the programme addresses a specific problem in the individual's life.
