At current prices, the cost of treatment for one year is:

• £1,051 (€1,500) with buprenorphine at 8 µg daily;
• £318 (€450) with methadone mixture at 60 mg daily;

Given the lack of UK studies and experience, the cost effectiveness of buprenorphine compared with methadone has not been determined.
