Crime and Disorder Act (1998)

Applicable to: England and Wales

The Crime and Disorder Act 1998 introduced various measures to address anti-social behaviour, including:

  • Anti-Social Behaviour Orders (ASBOs);
  • Child Curfew Schemes;
  • Child Safety Orders;
  • Truancy powers (allowing the Police to work with Local Authorities and schools to tackle truancy - the Police are able to pick up truants and return them to a designated area);
  • Parenting Orders; and
  • Tackling Racism (the Act created new offences such as racially aggravated assault, criminal damage, public order offences and harassment).
