Drugs Awareness

An essential course for anyone who needs a thorough and up-to-date introduction to drug use and related issues. The course explores the social, cultural and health aspects of drug use in the UK. An overview is provided of key government strategy areas such as young people, treatment and criminal justice interventions.  

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

·         To understand the recent history and latest information about drug patterns and trends  

  • To improve knowledge of the effects and risks of all psychoactive substances

  • To enhance skills in assessing different types of drug use and the role of harm reduction 

  • To gain an overview of drug policy and practice

This course supports the following DANOS units:

·         AA1 Recognise indications of substance misuse and rfer individuals to specialists

  • AB2 Support individuals who are substance users

  • AB5 Assess and act upon immediate risk of danger to subsatnce users

  • AC1 Develop your own knowledge and practice

  • AD1 Raise awarness bout substances their use and effects

Certificate of Higher Education in Addiction Studies by Distance Learning

The course is designed for students who:

-are new or have recently begun to work in the addiction field or those who work in the health and social welfare field and their work has expanded to include people who have problem substance misuse

-do not have any former higher or further education experience

would like to acquire a broad foundation in addiction studies at higher education level.

Approved access course / mature entry scheme / 2 >A= levels grade C or above
